Andhra CM’s death triggers rash of suicides

Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y.S. Rajashekar Reddy was killed in a helicopter crash, on 2 September, over the Nallamala hills. The chopper had taken off in spite of warnings of inclement weather it is stated. The wreckage of the ill fated chopper was found on an isolated hill in the Nallamala forests at 9.50 am on Thursday, a little more than 24 hours after his helicopter went missing. The four others travelling with him have also died.
The state was still reeling under the shock of Wednesday's death of YSR, as the charismatic chief minister was popularly known, as well as two officials and the two pilots of the Bell 430 helicopter.
The grief shown by the people of Andhra for their leader has been unprecedented for any leader. Telegu news channels have reported that more than 100 people have died either due to shock or by committing suicide. This is the first time in the state's history that such a large number of people have died over the death of any political leader.
Most of the persons who died of shock were young supporters or were beneficiaries of the various welfare schemes of the various welfare schemes launched by him in the last five years.
