Give more info on air travellers: US to Pak

Washington: The US is increasing pressure on Pakistan to provide it with more information on airline passengers as part of its efforts to combat terrorism, The New York Times reported on Monday.
American investigators use this information to track travel pattern of terrorists. The report claimed that Pakistan has been refusing to cooperate with the US in this regard.
Stating that Pakistan, like other countries, currently provides the names of airline passengers travelling to the United States, the report, quoting unnammed officials, said that the US wants more information on Pakistanis who fly to other countries, to feed into databases that can detect patterns used by terrorists, their financiers, logisticians and others who support them.
The US currently wants more information on recent travel history of Pakistani nationals and how they paid for their tickets.
According to the report, Pakistan has been rebuffing this politically unpopular request for several years saying it is an invasion of its citizens’ privacy. But the issue is now on a “short list” of sticking points between the two countries.
The increased pressure from the US comes after the May 1 failed bomb plot in New York's Times Square in which a 30-year-old Pakistani-born naturalised US citizen, Faisal Shahzad, has been charged.
