New York Sikh body to appeal against Tytler clean chit

New Delhi: A New York-based Sikh group, Sikhs for Justice, alleged on Wednesday that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had given the clean chit to Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots without going through all evidence and witnesses.
Disappointed at Delhi High Court’s verdict last Tuesday upholding the clean chit to Tytler, the Sikh group is gearing up for another legal battle, challenging the verdict.
This same group had originally challenged CBI’s closure report in 2007 and will now appeal against the Delhi High court’s verdict, claiming that new witnesses have not been examined yet.
“The CBI did not investigate material witnesses when they came to the US and they came with the premeditated notion of giving Tytler a clean chit,” Gurpatwant Pannun, the lawyer for the Sikhs for Justice, was quoted in reports from New York.
In April, Sikhs for Justice has also filed a civil suit against Union minister Kamal Nath in a New York Federal court for his alleged role in the 1984 killings.
