A Lotto player from the Bay of Plenty town of Ōpōtiki has become the country’s newest multi-millionaire, scooping up a massive $12 million Powerball jackpot in the latest draw.
The lucky winner also claimed an additional $500,000 in First Division, a prize they shared with another ticket holder from Christchurch, who purchased their ticket at Hornby Mall Lotto.
The winning numbers were 13, 4, 40, 33, 9 and 15, with the bonus ball 1 and Powerball 4.
Alongside the top-tier winners, 12 players won $25,749 each in Lotto Second Division, while four players took home $30,917 each in Powerball Second Division.
The win has brought celebration to the small Bay of Plenty town, where Lotto officials said excitement is already building as locals wait to see if the winner will step forward.
This marks one of the larger Powerball wins in recent months and continues New Zealand’s run of life-changing lottery prizes.
