Know NZ’s most expensive property of the year
A clifftop mansion in Auckland’s Herne Bay has taken the title of New Zealand’s most expensive home sold in 2025, fetching an impressive $35 million, according to Trade Me Property.
The luxury residence at 64 Sentinel Rd headed the platform’s top 10 list of high-end sales, which together amounted to nearly $250 million.
Trade Me Property spokesperson Casey Wylde said the rankings show the resilience of the country’s premium real estate market, despite a generally subdued trend across the broader housing sector.
“These homes aren't just properties, they're often landmark estates that draw in buyers who value privacy, scale, and high-end design,” Wylde said, Stuff has reported.
Two Auckland properties shared second place, one in Westmere and another in Mission Bay, both selling for $28 million. The Mission Bay home on Ronaki Rd, offering five bedrooms, demonstrated a remarkable rise in value after previously selling for $3.5 million in 2004. Another property on the same street took third place with a $22m sale price, as reported by Stuff.
Auckland dominated the rankings, claiming seven of the top 10 positions and reinforcing its reputation as the country’s premier luxury property market. The remaining three top-tier homes were located in Central Otago and Taupō.
Highlighting the diverse appeal in the high-end sector, Wylde said:
“Whether it's a coastal masterpiece with a helicopter pad, a modern property with garage space to accommodate a luxury car collection, or a timeless estate complete with tennis court, there's always a segment of the market where unique quality commands a premium price,” as reported by Stuff.
