A woman endured a horrifying ordeal after becoming trapped inside a collapsed long drop toilet while holidaying in Australia’s Northern Territory.

New call-to-action

According to a report by Stuff, the incident happened at the Henbury Meteorites Conservation Zone, where local media reported the floor of the toilet suddenly gave way, causing the Canberra woman to fall about two metres into a pit containing human waste, urine and nappies.

According to News.com.au, the woman remained stuck waist-deep in the waste for around three hours while her husband and two children left to seek help.

She was eventually freed by a local tradesman who reportedly used tools from his vehicle to dismantle part of the toilet structure and pull her out.

New call-to-action

The woman suffered minor cuts during the incident.

“The lady was stuck waist-high in waste,” a witness said on social media.

“There’s shit, literal nappies, piss, all in that hole,” as quoted by Stuff.

According to a report by Stuff, Northern Territory workplace safety authorities have launched an investigation into the collapse.

An NT WorkSafe spokesman told NewsWire the regulator was examining how the structure failed.

“The notification was made by the agency with management of the conservation zone as a collapse or partial collapse of a structure, which is a dangerous incident under the work health and safety laws,” Stuff has quoted.
