New footage has emerged showing flies trapped in sealed meat packages at two different supermarkets in New Zealand.

In a video shared on social media from Pak ‘n Save in Upper Hutt, a hefty fly was spotted lounging inside a hermetically-sealed crumbed chicken schnitzel packet.

New call-to-action

The witty commentator remarked, “Prices flying out the door.”

Further north, at New World in Whanganui, another vigilant customer caught footage of what seemed to be a fly throwing a maggot party atop a tightly sealed steak package.

A representative from Foodstuffs, the parent company of Pak ‘n Save and New World, stated they were still sleuthing the New World incident. However, the Pak ‘n Save chicken schnitzel had been detected and promptly evicted from the shelf.

“We hold food safety in high regard and uphold rigorous processes to ensure top-notch standards,” assured the spokesperson.

They clarified that the chicken mishap occurred during in-store packaging, and the team is on the case to determine how the uninvited fly guest crashed the party.

“Pak ‘n Save Upper Hutt boasts an impeccable health and food safety record. While such occurrences are exceptionally rare, if spotted, we encourage customers to promptly alert our in-store team so we can swiftly remove and investigate the situation.”

These revelations follow NZ Food Safety initiating an independent evaluation of Woolworths' pest control methods nationwide. This move was prompted by one store shuttering due to a rat infestation, while another had a mouse staging an avant-garde performance on the deli section salads.
