Vaid’s Decorations: Daughter’s Birthday Spawns Thriving Business

In the heart of Auckland, an event decoration company is turning dreams into reality, one celebration at a time.
What started as a simple balloon decoration for a girl’s birthday back in 2021 has blossomed into a flourishing business, covering not only Auckland but also reaching other cities and towns in North Island.

The journey began when Chandrika, founder of Vaid’s Decorations–inspired by the positive response to her daughter's birthday decorations–decided to take the plunge into the world of event decoration.

The turning point came unexpectedly when friends of a friend found themselves in a bind. “The original decorator for their event had backed out, leaving them in a panic. They reached out to us with a last-minute request and we decided to step in and save the day,”
recalls Chandrika.

The debut event in December 2021 marked the company's first paid decoration gig, and little did they know it would be the catalyst for their future success.

“The decorations exceeded expectations, drawing numerous compliments and boosting our confidence. This newfound assurance inspired us to envision the venture as a full-fledged business,” Chandrika says. Word of mouth became the company's primary
marketing tool as satisfied clients from the initial event began referring the team to others. The positive feedback even led to a spontaneous booking at the event itself, kickstarting a chain of events that propelled the company's expansion.

As the business thrived in Hamilton, the demand for their unique and creative decorations grew. “Guests at events were so impressed that inquiries about services in Auckland started pouring in. Recognising the growing demand, we took the initiative to enhance our skills by undertaking training in Auckland for wedding decorations, mandap, and traditional drapery,” Chandrika says.

With a newfound arsenal of skills, the company transformed ordinary spaces into dreamscapes, earning the trust of clients who allowed them to push creative boundaries. “The focus on affordability ensured that dream decorations weren't reserved for the elite. Instead, we aimed to make every special day memorable without breaking the bank,” Chandrika says. The decision to expand to Auckland in 2023 marked a significant milestone for Vaid’s Decorations, turning the local success story into a regional sensation. 

The company's services now span from Auckland to Wellington, covering Hamilton, Cambridge, Te Kuiti, Tauranga, Te Awamutu and Rotorua. Chandrika emphasises the importance of customer convenience, noting her company has established contacts for all event needs, including photographers, catering, DJs, staging, and dance floors.

“To cater to varying preferences, we also offer a unique service–renting out decoration materials for clients who prefer a DIY approach. This flexibility has not only attracted more customers but has also cemented our reputation as a one-stop-shop for all event needs.” Social media has played a pivotal role in showcasing the company's portfolio, with an active presence on
Facebook and Instagram. The pages serve as a testament to the team's creativity, featuring snapshots of stunning decorations and garnering positive reviews from satisfied clients.
