A man who urinated on a supermarket shelf while allegedly stealing cans of alcohol was arrested at his home on Friday after police were called to Woolworths in central Dunedin, Stuff has reported.

The man had entered the store twice that day, with his first visit at 9.41am, when he allegedly stole three packets of scotch fillet, porterhouse steak, and pork chops by placing the items in a bag and walking out, according to Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond.

New call-to-action

He returned at 3.30pm, allegedly stole more steak, and then moved to the alcohol section where he urinated on a shelf that had stock on it while loading cans of alcohol into his bag.

Police later located the man at his residence, where he was arrested on eight charges, including offensive behaviour, three counts of trespass, wilful damage, and two shoplifting offences.

He appeared in court on Saturday morning, where police opposed bail. The man was remanded in custody until later this week.

In a separate incident, Bond said police also arrested a 29-year-old man at his home address in connection with an earlier case of unlawfully interfering with a motor vehicle.
