Two people have died following a crash involving a truck and a car in Karapiro early Wednesday morning.
Emergency services were called to the crash at around 6am.
Police said the Serious Crash Unit is at the scene and is working alongside other emergency services to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.
State Highway 29 has been closed between Hinuera and Piarere, with motorists being urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
Diversions are in place, while vehicles are also being turned around as the highway is expected to remain closed for most of the day.
