Takanini Gurudwara Initiative Eases Driver's Licence Process

In New Zealand, navigating the process of obtaining a driver's licence can be a daunting task, especially for newcomers and the aged. Recognising this challenge, the Takanini Gurudwara committee has embarked on an initiative to assist individuals in overcoming the initial hurdle of acquiring their learner's license, thus paving the way for greater mobility and independence.

The Gurudwara, in partnership with the New Zealand Police, is offering support to all community members who aspire to obtain their learner's licence. This inclusive initiative is open to individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and genders, emphasising equal opportunity for all.

One of the standout features of this program is its commitment to language accessibility. Acknowledging that language should not be a barrier, the practical course can be conducted in multiple languages, including Punjabi, Hindi, and English. This ensures that participants can fully comprehend the material and confidently complete the necessary requirements.

Participants are advised to bring their passport or identity proof and residential address proof when attending the theory test session. Prior to the test, individuals will receive comprehensive training, lasting 4-5 hours, to equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to pass the test with confidence.

For those seeking a new learner's licence, the cost is $196.10. Conversely, individuals looking to convert their overseas license will face a fee of $244.

Regarding the theory test session, it is tentatively scheduled for 18th May, but the final date will be confirmed depending on the number of participants. To secure a spot, interested individuals should contact the Takanini Gurudwara office at 09 2962376.

The process of organising this initiative, with the assistance of the New Zealand Police, spanned approximately six weeks. Daljit Singh, a committee member, expressed a strong commitment to the initiative's continuation, aiming to expand its reach to include even more participants in the future if the initiative proves successful.
