Man Arrested For Brutally Beating Indian Worker In Auckland

One man has been arrested in connection with the assault of an Indian worker at an Auckland eatery, following a complaint by his family.

“A 26-year-old man has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm following an overnight incident in Henderson on Monday, 30 June,” Detective Senior Sergeant Megan Goldie of Waitematā CIB told The Indian Weekender in a statement.

“Waitematā Crime Squad executed search warrants and made the arrest this morning,” Detective Senior Sergeant Megan Goldie added.

The arrested man is scheduled to appear in the Waitakere District Court on Tuesday, 8 July.

As reported by The Indian Weekender first on 30 June 2025, 27-year-old Mr S (name withheld)’s family claimed that he was “hit by six persons, including the owner with a kebab rod and rolling pin, has suffered fractures on his left leg, nasal bone fractures, finger injuries, chest injury, and multiple other injuries,” the family claimed.

The family claimed that Mr S had been working as a kitchen hand at Daaku Kebab since 2023 on an Accredited Employer Work Visa.

New call-to-action

“He underwent a three-hour-long orthopaedic surgery on the night of 29 June, 2025,” the family added further.

A copy of Mr S’s medical records is with The Indian Weekender.

Since then, police have been investigating the matter and have been in touch with the family, as mentioned by the family themselves to The Indian Weekender. They have also promptly responded to media queries.

“The victim remains in a stable condition in hospital and Police have updated him on the arrest. Enquiries are ongoing into the incident which occurred around 12.30am,” the police statement added.

According to his family’s claims, Mr S had been repeatedly requesting his employer to release ten weeks' worth of unpaid wages — a demand that led to the alleged attack.

New call-to-action

The family claimed that Mr S informed them that there was no one else present from the staff at the restaurant at the time of the assault.

The Indian Weekender contacted the Auckland eatery on 30 June 2025 but has not heard back from them.

Mr S's family claimed that on the night of the incident, he began his shift at 7pm. By 2am, he was found unconscious on the roadside by cleaners, who promptly contacted his family.

“‘Peeche aa, baat karni hai’ (Come out back, I need to talk to you), the owner said to him around 11pm before the beating began,” his family and friends claimed.

“He was attacked by the owner and five others. He ran for his life, hid in a bush, and later crawled to the road where he collapsed,” the family’s claim added.

The family said they were informed about the incident around 2.30am by the cleaners who discovered Mr S.

"He was then taken to the hospital, and we reached around 3.00 am, and the police arrived as well," Mr S's family claimed.

Mr S is in hospital, “still under shock, but stable,” his family told The Indian Weekender.

“I hope that the man who did this to our brother is brought to book,” the family told The Indian Weekender today.
