A wave of grief is surrounding a school community in Palmerston North following the tragic death of Kimberley Ashcroft, a 31-year-old school member and parent, during a family trip over the weekend.
According to a statement shared by Newbury School principal Chris Symon on behalf of the family, Ashcroft “passed away tragically as a result of an accident during a family trip on Saturday.” The sudden loss has left both her family and the school community in deep shock, as reported by Stuff.
Ashcroft was remembered as an integral part of the school, known for her constant presence and support. “Kimberley was a valuable member of our school community, consistently showing up for her family, supporting many students in and out of the classroom - especially on the netball court, and was always present at events,” Symon said, Stuff has quoted.
A fundraising page created to support her family reflected the immense grief felt by loved ones, stating, “our hearts are beyond broken.” The page also described her as “a cherished daughter, sister, aunty, niece and cousin who will be deeply missed,” Stuff has quoted.
The principal also paid tribute with an emotional message: “Dear Kimberley, Kua whetūrangitia koe / You have become a star, joining your ancestors in the sky,” adding, “We know you will continue to watch down on your family and give them love and strength.”
According to Stuff, funds raised through the initiative are being directed towards funeral expenses and immediate support for the family. The fundraiser further appealed for solidarity, stating, “Following a tragic accident on 11th April, our hearts are beyond broken. Let’s show our support to her family as they navigate the difficult days ahead.”
