A police vehicle rushing to attend a crash scene in Upper Hutt was itself involved in a separate three-car collision on Sunday evening.

New call-to-action

According to a police media release, both incidents occurred on State Highway 2, River Road, a busy route through the area. The first accident, involving two vehicles, took place near Clouston Park, between Fergusson Drive and Totara Park Road, shortly before 6 pm, Stuff reported.

Emergency services arrived to find only moderate injuries from the initial crash. However, while responding “under urgent duty,” a police vehicle became involved in another accident with two other cars on the same stretch of road, near Gibbons Street, as reported by Stuff.

Although no serious injuries have been reported from either crash, police have closed sections of the road for scene examination.

New call-to-action

Motorists have been advised to expect significant delays in Upper Hutt on Sunday evening, with diversions in place and authorities urging drivers to avoid the area if possible.
