Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters says New Zealand is committed to supporting collective security by working closely with NATO partners.

Peters has been in Europe, including two days in Belgium during a meeting of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) foreign ministers.

He specified support for Ukraine in its fight against Russia.

"The outcome of the war in Ukraine will have profound impacts on global security, and that is why New Zealand must be prepared to do its part."

He said New Zealand and NATO had been working towards a "renewal of our long-standing partnership through our Individually Tailored Partnership Programme".

"We expect to conclude this partnership in the coming months, agreeing tangible areas of cooperation."

Peters will now travel to the United States for meetings in New York and Washington DC.
