A traffic-related incident in Opotiki, Bay of Plenty, on Tuesday evening has left eight people injured, with some reported to be in critical condition.

According to a report by Stuff, emergency responders, including Hato Hone St John, arrived at Waiotahe Beach Road around 8.30pm to manage the situation. The scene saw a substantial emergency response as teams worked to assess and assist those involved.

Hato Hone St John said eight individuals were being treated, with injuries varying in severity from critical to minor. The response included four ambulances, a critical care unit, and a major incident support team, as reported by Stuff.

According to Stuff, additional support came from two helicopters dispatched to aid patient care and transport, along with an operations manager overseeing the response.

Hato Hone St John confirmed seven vehicles in total attended the incident, and staff remained at the scene later in the evening.
