Measles Hits Wellington
Health New Zealand (HNZ) has confirmed that four staff members and around 60 students from Wellington Girls’ College have been identified as possible contacts of a person with measles, RNZ reported.
The school has informed all affected individuals, advising them that HNZ will be in touch to determine whether they need to isolate.
According to an official HNZ letter sent to the college on Sunday, the person with measles was present at the school on Monday, 13 October, between 8.45 a.m. and midday. The letter stated that HNZ is directly contacting those considered at the highest risk of infection.
"These people are considered close contacts and may need to stay home to stop measles spreading to others," the letter read, as quoted by RNZ.
So far, eight measles cases have been confirmed nationwide, with health officials warning of a potential outbreak. Locations of interest have been identified in Auckland, Taranaki, Nelson-Marlborough, Tasman, and the Manawatū-Whanganui region.
Health New Zealand has not yet issued a direct comment regarding the situation at Wellington Girls’ College.
