Lohri: Flat Bush prepares for flames, food, festivities

"Get ready for a night that'll set the skies ablaze and your hearts alight as we bring the magic of Lohri to Barry Curtis Park!" exclaims Vijay Gulati, the enthusiastic organiser from Maa Shakti Charitable Trust.

Flat Bush is gearing up for the fourth annual Lohri Mela on January 13, which promises to bring the community together for an unforgettable evening filled with cultural richness and festive joy.

The event's highlight will undoubtedly be the grand bonfire, a symbolic representation of the Lohri festival. Attendees can also expect to witness an awe-inspiring display of fireworks in the evening.

"This isn't your average fireworks show. It's a visual feast that'll leave you in awe," promises Gulati.

Kids, get ready to scream with joy because there'll be rides that'll make your heart race faster than the beats of the live DJ and dhol performances!

Parents need not worry about hungry tummies as several food stalls will serve tempting Indian delicacies and street treats like popcorn, candyfloss, churros, ice cream, and finger-licking-good street burgers.

For those inclined towards arts and crafts, there will be stalls showcasing the talents of local artisans, providing a unique shopping experience. Attendees also stand a chance to win exciting prizes through a lucky draw, adding an extra element of thrill to the celebration.

“And here's the kicker—this isn't your average pay-to-enter gig. It's a big family event! No tickets, no hassle," says Gulati. Aample free parking is provided, making it convenient for families to join the celebration without worrying about logistics.

“The excitement is palpable as new stalls and performances line up, adding fresh flavours and beats to the extravaganza," says Gulati.

"It's more than just celebrating our culture; it's about inviting everyone to join in and celebrate diversity and happiness. It's about sharing the joy that festivals like Lohri bring, breaking barriers, and building bridges between communities."

The enthusiasm of those eager to join the celebration echoes the sentiment of unity and inclusivity that the event aims to promote.

As Lily Anderson, who attended last year’s Lohri celebration, sums up, “I can't wait to experience the magic again this year! The bonfire and fireworks were mesmerising, and the music had us dancing the night away. It's a celebration like no other!"
