Laneway food truck seeks contact after food poisoning complaints
A food vendor operating at Laneway festival has urged anyone who believes they may have suffered food poisoning to contact them, following online complaints from festivalgoers about illness after eating at a Mexican food truck. Reported by Poppy Clark from Stuff.
The appeal came after several attendees posted on social media alleging they became sick after eating from the SheppardsNZ food truck.
One woman said she experienced “the world’s worst diarrhoea” and claimed others she knew had similar symptoms. Another festivalgoer wrote that she waited an hour and a half for her order before spending the following day “fighting for your life with food poisoning”.
When contacted by Stuff, SheppardsNZ encouraged anyone who believed they had become unwell after consuming their food to get in touch so the matter could be investigated.
“Food safety is our number one priority. We take the utmost care in food safety and our trucks adhere to the strict health guidelines for events,” a spokesperson said.
The operator added that they work with premium food wholesalers and that all food is purchased fresh and cooked fresh each day.
“Currently looking into this situation and encourage anyone who may have been affected to get in touch so we can investigate it further,” the spokesperson said.
Laneway 2026 was held at Western Springs in Auckland on February 5.
Among the headline performers was Chappell Roan, who spoke candidly to the crowd about the political climate in the United States. She said she had not realised how frightened she felt until arriving in New Zealand.
“It's tough in my country right now. It’s tough. It's always been tough, but Jesus f...ing Christ.
“Like when I saw the pride flags here... I was just like, mum, I’m so scared in the United States, f... but like to be here and like to see so many businesses with pride flags. This is f...ing awesome.
“I'm just so grateful that this is like a community that accepts and values queer people, so thank you for that.”
