Police have released images of the offender involved in the assault of a woman in Papatoetoe in the early hours of 9 May 2025 on Sutton Crescent. An investigation is underway after the woman sustained a head injury.

Police are now appealing to the public, releasing images of the offender and asking anyone who can identify the man to get in touch.

CCTV footage shows the male offender walking away from the scene shortly after the assault.

“At around midnight, the victim and the offender had been walking along Sutton Crescent when an argument broke out between them,” Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Hayward says.

“We do not know why this argument began but it has continued as the pair moved towards Kolmar Road.”

New call-to-action

The woman attempted to walk away from the male offender but was assaulted.

“The force of the assault has caused the victim to fall to the ground,” Detective Senior Sergeant Hayward said on the matter.

Police said the man continued to assault and “used extreme force on the woman.”

The woman is recovering from serious injuries at Middlemore Hospital.

Police say they have conducted a thorough search, but no witnesses to the violent incident have been identified.

“We have obtained good CCTV footage of the man we want to speak with in this investigation,” police say.

“There is no place for this extreme violence in the community, and I’m confident someone will know who this man is.

“We need to hear from you.”
