Fire crews and police responded to a house fire in Northcote on Auckland’s North Shore this afternoon.

Multiple fire trucks were dispatched to Onewa Road, a major thoroughfare through the suburb, after several emergency calls were received shortly after 1pm. Crews from Birkenhead, Takapuna, and Devonport attended the scene.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the ceiling space of the single-storey brick home fully ablaze. There were reports of people inside the property at the time, but all occupants have now been evacuated. One person was seen being removed from the house and sustained minor injuries, which did not require medical treatment, police confirmed.

New call-to-action

Nearby businesses were also evacuated as a precaution. Reports suggest the road has been blocked by police while smoke continues to billow from the property.

Fire and Emergency crews remain at the scene working to bring the blaze under control.
