Fire At Central Auckland Hotel Prompts Evacuation Of Dozens

Dozens of guests and staff were evacuated from a central Auckland hotel tonight after a fire broke out in the laundry area.
According to a report by RNZ, Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) said the blaze occurred in the Cordis Hotel on Symonds Street and was quickly contained by the building’s sprinkler system.
Firefighters are assisting guests and staff out of the multi-level building as a precaution. So far, there have been no reports of injuries.
Crews from Parnell, Balmoral, Grey Lynn, Auckland City, and Ellerslie responded to the scene, working to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and the premises were safe, RNZ reported.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is expected to follow once the area has been secured.
