A person is believed to have suffered critical injuries after a two-vehicle crash blocked a state highway in the Bay of Plenty on Thursday afternoon.
According to a report by Stuff, emergency services were called to the intersection of State Highway 2 and Awakeri Rd in Edgecumbe shortly after 4:50 pm following reports of a collision involving two vehicles.
Initial reports from the scene indicated that at least one person was critically injured.
The Serious Crash Unit attended the scene to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Police closed the highway and set up diversions at Putiki Rd and State Highway 30 while the road remained blocked near the Western Drain Rd intersection, as reported by Stuff.
Motorists were urged to delay travel if possible as emergency crews worked at the scene.
