Bharat Ko Janiye Curtain Raiser Quiz opens for NZ participants

The Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, has launched the Curtain Raiser Quiz ahead of the 6th Bharat Ko Janiye (Know India) Quiz, inviting members of the Indian diaspora and friends of India across New Zealand, Australia and Indonesia to take part.

Described as a precursor to the main competition, the Curtain Raiser Quiz marks the beginning of the journey to the 6th Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz, which is scheduled to be held later this year.

Bharat Ko Janiye (Know India) Quiz is a flagship initiative of the Ministry of External Affairs aimed at engaging members of the Indian diaspora and foreign nationals, particularly young people, while strengthening their connection with India.

The initiative encourages participants to learn more about India's heritage, art, culture, cuisine, history, people, as well as the country's growth story and contributions to the world.

Organisers are calling on the Indian diaspora and friends of India in New Zealand, Australia and Indonesia to participate in the Curtain Raiser Quiz by scanning the QR code provided in the promotional material.

The Ministry says the Curtain Raiser Quiz serves as an introduction to the 6th Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz, with further updates about the main competition expected in the coming months.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit New Zealand on 10 July, 2026, the government has officially announced.

"The Indian Prime Minister will arrive in Auckland on Friday 10 July and depart on Saturday 11 July."

The community event with PM Modi and New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon is expected to take place in Auckland.

“Prime Minister Modi’s visit is historic, with this being the first to New Zealand by an Indian Prime Minister in 40 years,” PM Luxon said.

“We are taking the two countries’ relationship to the next level with our New Zealand-India Free Trade Agreement, signed in April, which will deliver more jobs, higher exports and stronger economic growth for New Zealand.

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, who is attending The Indian Weekender Kiwi Indian Hall of Fame 2026 on 3 July, is expected to share insights into Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit, serving as a curtain-raiser to officially welcome him.

Earlier this year, both the New Zealand and Indian governments confirmed preparations were underway for the visit. The two countries signed a landmark trade agreement that will eliminate or reduce tariffs on 95 per cent of New Zealand's exports to India.

Fresh details about the visit had emerged earlier after Trade Minister Todd McClay met his Indian counterpart, Piyush Goyal, on the sidelines of a World Trade Organization ministerial conference in Cameroon, with discussions focusing on trade ties and preparations for Modi's visit.

The visit has generated excitement among community leaders, who have shared their thoughts and expressed their enthusiasm about welcoming the Indian Prime Minister.
