Police have named the man whose body was recovered from Lake Tekapo following an extensive search operation last week.
Baldeep Singh, 34, of Christchurch, died after he reportedly came off the town’s main bridge on June 11 and failed to resurface. His body was recovered by the Police Dive Squad at about 2pm the following day.
The search operation involved police, Coastguard Mackenzie Lakes volunteers, Fire and Emergency New Zealand, a helicopter crew and the Police Dive Squad.
“Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this difficult time,” a police spokesperson said.
Police said inquiries were continuing on behalf of the coroner.
The death is separate to an incident earlier this week in which a man’s body was found in shallow water on Lake Tekapo’s western shore.
