Argument Turns Violent, Person Stabbed
A person was allegedly stabbed during a violent altercation outside the Mahia Rd Superette in Manurewa, South Auckland, on Saturday evening.
Police said they were called to the scene around 7.05pm following reports of a grievous assault. One person suffered minor injuries and was treated by ambulance staff at the scene. Officers confirmed that one person has been taken into custody, and investigations into the incident are ongoing, The New Zealand Herald reported.
According to the company director of Mahia Rd Superette, the confrontation began when a group of young people started arguing with a store employee at the entrance. The dispute reportedly involved the youths attempting to take something from the store without paying, as reported by The New Zealand Herald.
A regular customer intervened in an attempt to calm the situation but was allegedly caught up in the violence that followed. “They wanted to help my staff,” the director said. “We believe one of them has been stabbed. That’s all we’ve been told so far,” The New Zealand Herald reported.
The director, who was hosting a family event at the time, said his staff were deeply shaken by the incident. “My staff are shaking, but they didn’t tell me right away because my grandson’s birthday party was going on,” he said.
Police cordoned off the area outside the superette as forensic teams examined the scene on Saturday night. Authorities are now working to determine what sparked the altercation and whether those involved knew each other.
