Invercargill is gearing up for a vibrant and culturally rich celebration as Indian Community Southland (ICS) prepares to host GJ Gardner's Diwali 2023 on November 4, 2023, at ILT Stadium.

This free event, supported by the High Commission of India in Wellington, is open to the public and assures a day filled with culture, performances and delicious Indian food.

The Diwali Festival, presented by ICS for the Southland Indian community, marks the festival's third edition. Over the years, it has become an eagerly awaited and significant cultural highlight on the community's annual calendar.

This year's G J Gardner's Diwali promises to be an unforgettable event with a diverse array of performances and activities. The festivities will kick off with an energetic performance by Hamilton Bhangra and Gidha Group, representing the vibrant culture of north India.

Audiences can expect to witness the grace and artistry of Indian classical dance, performed by acclaimed artists from India. This traditional form of expression, with its intricate movements and storytelling through motion, captivates audiences and transcends cultures.

A Bollywood DJ is set to turn the venue into a lively spectacle of rhythm and moves, ensuring an unforgettable experience with a dance floor brimming with energy and joy.

There will also be a number of other local performers showcasing their talent throughout the day.

One of the highlights of the festival is the delectable Indian cuisine that will be on offer. From aromatic curries to mouth-watering sweets, this culinary journey promises a tantalising taste of India's rich gastronomic heritage.

It's a unique opportunity for Invercargill residents to immerse themselves in the vibrant traditions of India and foster unity and understanding among diverse cultures.

Vinay Sood of ICS encapsulates the spirit of the festival, saying, "The Diwali festival exemplifies the unifying spirit, bringing people together to share in the joy and symbolism of the Festival of Lights. Join us for this illuminating celebration that transcends borders and brings the community together."
