Cricketer Virat Kohli and Actor Anushka Sharma have announced the birth of their second child, a baby boy named Akaay, born on February 15. The couple shared the news with their followers on social media, stating, “With abundant happiness and our hearts full of love, we are pleased to inform everyone that on February 15th, we welcomed our baby boy Akaay and Vamika’s little brother into this world,” both Kohli and Anushka wrote.
After the birth announcement, fans and celebrities flooded the post with congratulatory messages, also wishing the couple and the new born good health.
Last month, as India announced their squad for the first two of five Tests against England, the BCCI had stated in a press release that Kohli will miss the matches in Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam ‘citing personal reasons’.
With anticipation around his comeback later in the series, the Indian cricket board stated ahead of the Rajkot Test that the former India captain had pulled out of the remainder of the series.
“Virat Kohli will remain unavailable for selection for the remainder of the series due to personal reasons. The Board fully respects and supports Mr Kohli’s decision,” the BCCI stated.
When Anushka and Kohli were due to have their first child, the cricketer had pulled out of the last three of the four Tests on the tour of Australia in 2020-21. With Kohli being India's captain at the time, Ajinkya Rahane stood in for the remaining three Tests.
