Police Officer Allegedly Assaulted In Dunedin

A police officer was allegedly assaulted during a brawl involving about 20 young people outside a central Dunedin fast food restaurant on Tuesday afternoon.

Police responded to several reports of disorder outside the McDonald’s on George Street at around 3.40pm.

Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond confirmed that officers attended the scene and arrested one person for threatening behaviour.

“The person has then allegedly assaulted the arresting police officer. Thankfully, the officer was uninjured,” Bond said.

A 15-year-old girl has been charged with disorderly behaviour likely to cause violence, possession of an offensive weapon, and assaulting police. She is scheduled to appear in the Youth Court on July 17.
