Man critical after serious assault in Christchurch
Police have cordoned off a central Christchurch property overnight as investigations continue into a serious assault that left a man in a critical condition.
Emergency services were called to a property on Fitzgerald Avenue, where a man was found with injuries. He was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
“At around 12:20pm today Police were called to a property on Fitzgerald Avenue, where a man was found in a critical condition, with injuries consistent with being stabbed,” Detective Sergeant Caroline Johnson said in a statement.
“A scene guard will remain in place in central Christchurch overnight as Police continue to investigate a serious assault.
A scene examination is under way. Officers are expected to maintain a visible presence in the area while inquiries continue.
Police have sought to reassure the public, saying there is not believed to be any ongoing threat to public safety.
