Police have released the name of the man whose body was recovered after a day’s search at Maraetotara Falls in Hawkes Bay.
20-year-old Indian student Aman Kumar had gone swimming with five of his friends to Maraetotara Falls on Friday, December 21 when he dove into the water and failed to surface.
Emergency services were called at around 5:30 p.m. to the popular swimming spot. Police dive squad failed to locate the missing swimmer and suspended the search for the day at 7:30 p.m.
On Saturday, December 22, police dive squad located the missing diver at about 9 a.m. and started the formal identification process.
Aman Kumar came to New Zealand as a student a year ago and lived in Hastings.

“Police offer their condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time,” Police said.
Maraetotara Falls, on the Maraetotara River is a popular swimming spot and tourist attraction, off Kahuranaki Road, and 16 km south of from Havelock North.
