Moshims Discount House Group of Companies added another feather to its cap in the competitive retail grocery market in Auckland on Saturday with the opening of its first supermarket in the bustling Mt Roskill suburb.Starting out as a small store 20 years ago, the supermarket was a natural progression to the next level of business, group managing director Mohammed Hashim Khan told Indian Weekender.
“It’s the starting of bigger things to come, Mr Khan said of the opening of Moshims Plaza where the supermarket is located at 64 Stoddart Rd, Mt Roskill.
“Things will happen in stages and we plan a restaurant, ice cream shop, butcher, video shop – all under one complex,” Mr Khan said.
At the opening on Saturday, June 20, crowds jammed the complex, and the car park overflowed with customers as people rushed to snatch the specials. The supermarket offers bulk foods, spices, and every other food item that you would find in any other major supermarket.
With its spacious premises, and neat and well stocked shelves, this supermarket is well on track to take on the giants Foodtown and Pak ‘n’ Save.
If you didn’t know Mr Khan, you would have never guessed that he was the main man behind the impressive complex as he could be seen in every corner of the store – from stocking the shelves to carting items from delivery trucks.
He even helped out the cashiers by packing customers' groceries and also attended to customers’ gripes and saw that they left the store happy.
Since starting out 20 years ago, the Moshim group has grown into 24 stores throughout the country including two in Australia.
And, according to Mr Khan, there are plans to expand the supermarkets into other parts of the country soon.
The company’s other store on Stoddart Rd will now be closed down. Keep an eye out for many more specials.
