A Lotto player from the Bay of Plenty town of Ōpōtiki has become the country’s newest multi-millionaire, scooping up a massive $12 million Powerball jackpot in the latest draw.

The lucky winner also claimed an additional $500,000 in First Division, a prize they shared with another ticket holder from Christchurch, who purchased their ticket at Hornby Mall Lotto.

The winning numbers were 13, 4, 40, 33, 9 and 15, with the bonus ball 1 and Powerball 4.

Alongside the top-tier winners, 12 players won $25,749 each in Lotto Second Division, while four players took home $30,917 each in Powerball Second Division.
