Rishabh Pant surpasses Kapil Dev to register fastest Test fifty by an Indian

Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant on Sunday registered the fastest fifty by an Indian batter in the longer format.
 It has come off 28 deliveries Pant scored 50 runs in just 28 balls and surpassed the record of former India captain Kapil Dev, who made his record of registering a half-century in 30 balls.

Overall, he stands joint-ninth in the elusive list alongside EAV Williams of West Indies, Ian Botham from England, West Indies' Chris Gayle and New Zealand's Colin de Grandhomme. Among Asian batters, he stands fifth after Misbah-ul-Haq (21 balls), Shahid Afridi (26), Mohammad Ashraful (26), and Yousuf Youhana (27).
The wicketkeeper-batter achieved this feat on Day 2 of the ongoing second Test against Sri Lanka here at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Sunday.
Pant also scripted a world record for registering the fastest fifty by a wicketkeeper-batter in Tests, breaking the record set by Australia's Ian Smith and former India captain MS Dhoni. Both the veteran cricketers had scored a 34-ball fifty.
