Ford lovers strut their stuff

If the smell of burning rubber and petrol in the air make you feel at home, you should have been at the All Auckland Ford Show at the North Harbour Stadium on Sunday, April 5.
Proud owners of Ford cars from all walks and time of life were present to share the absolute joy of the machines they owned.

Any petrolhead with agree with me that there is no greater joy than seeing someone who has cared for a 90-year-old car like a newborn baby since when they got hold of them.

Cars ranging a mammoth 90 years in age were displayed here, the oldest being a 1916 T Touring Car and the latest being 2008 Ford Mustang. For me, the best part was that you could see how the present day's mighty V8 Supercar Ford Falcon had evolved to the fascinating machine it was now.

If you like the bigger cars (I mean the size), we had a fair share of Thunderbirds dating as far back as 1936, Fairmonts from 1939, and Falcons from 1960s. But if you prefer the small and compact powerhouses, they had a number of Compact but ever so exciting Cobras on display, too.

The biggest surprise, and the most exciting exhibit of the day went to the 1965 Le Mans champion 1960 Ford GT 40. If you are wondering what the 40 means, it’s the height of the car (it actually is only 40 inches tall).

Along with all this, to keep people who accompanied their “motorhead” friends
or family members to the show, there were the customary hotdogs, candy, ice-creams and the souvenir stalls as well.

There was a “fast and furious” car race going on the parking lot of the stadium. An
exciting display of radio car race was continuously going on.

To the surprise of many, those small remote controlled cars were fast and noisy and left one thinking that they were actually revving up for the Super V8 trials.
