SIT student Lenon Wawuka in the spotlight
Southern Institute of Technology Bachelor of Fashion Design student Lenon Wawuka was in the spotlight on Tuesday 1st April when he was filmed for the popular TV3 show Both Worlds.

Lenon will be filmed attending his unconventional wear class, where he is creating a garment that reflects his Zimbabwean roots. Lenon is training to be a fashion designer and being African from Zimbabwean decent is an important element to his work.

Lenon says, “We learn to appreciate our culture and who we are when we are in another country and because of this it has inspired me to express my culture through my fashion designs.”

The Both Worlds production crew will follow Lenon as he particpates in his class, preparing his ideas and being mentored by his tutor internationally renowned Pacific Couture designer Lindah Lepou.

Lenon will also be filmed at his home,on the streets of Invercargill and then in Dunedin at the ID fashion week. In Dunedin he will be talking to some emerging designers who also use their ethnicity in their designs as well as a runway show and catching up with his sister.

Both Worlds producer Julia Parnell said “Lenon’s story will give the audience personal insight into the life of a fashion design student. Lennon is a flamboyant and intriguing character and I am sure his quest to find a balance between his African heritage and his kiwi lifestyle and to then represent those discoveries in his work will make for a compelling and unique Both Worlds episode.”

Current screenings of Both Worlds season two are being aired on Saturday mornings on TV3  at 1030. This new series of 10 storys will air later this year.
