New Plymouth head-on car crash takes toll of Indian student

A 23-year old Indian student has died in a head-on car crash in New Plymouth on Sunday, October 14.
His last rites were performed on Tuesday, October 23 at Taranaki Crematorium with full Hindu religious rites by a Pandit who travelled all the way to New Plymouth from Auckland to conduct the funeral.
The Indian student from New Delhi, Yatharth Vats had been in the country since April this year studying Post Graduate Diploma in Hotel Management, Level 8 from Pacific International Hotel Management School (PIHMS), Bell Block in Taranaki.
Earlier Mr Vats's elder brother Nishant Vats travelled to New Zealand on Thursday last week to complete his last rites.
Another victim of the head-on car crash was a Nepalese student in New Zealand, Shamuel BK, who came to the country in February this year to study Diploma in Professional Cookery from Western Institute of Technology at Taranaki (Witt) and was due to finish his course later next year.
The incident happened around 10 p.m. on Sunday, October 14 on State Highway 3, between Kaleigh Street and Richmond Road near Waitara. Both the victims of the accident were driving alone when the head-on crash took place.
