A unique musical journey across India – right here in Auckland!

Indian music lovers mark Saturday, October 13 on your calendars for Ragas of the Gods, a unique musical and multimedia journey across India from the north to the south.

Hosted in the festive season of Dasera and Divali, Ragas of the Gods features a bouquet of different Indian musical traditions, from Punjabi and Hindustani to Carnatic to popular and familiar lighter tunes. While you listen, learn how all of the Indian music styles relate to one another and to places, seasons, colours and festivals.

The musical journey in the holy city of Amritsar and traverses through the varied terrain of the vast and wonderful country that is India, reaching Tanjore in the south, where the traditions of the north musically meet the ancient southern traditions like the joyful confluence of two great rivers.

Presenting Ragas of the Gods is New Zealand’s best musical talent – both veterans and youngsters, some presenting for the first time on stage. So be there to encourage our young talent while you take in this unique multimedia experience.

This is the first time that Indian music is being presented in such a creatively engaging format in New Zealand.

Conceived and written by Dev Nadkarni, the multimedia Ragas of the Gods will be narrated by Dr Nilima Upadhyay and Kaustubh Pethe.

Performing on stage will be well known teacher and senior singer Sandhya Rao, Carnatic  violinist and teacher Ashok Malur, experienced singers Vidya Teke and Mayur Tendulkar, Samir Bhalodkar on his samvadini, Hamilton’s Lester Silver on his sitar, well-known songster Viraj Maki and four young talented and promising singers Siddhi Nigudkar, Srisha Iyer, Mayuri Bhole and Vedant Kaduskar and others.

Accompanying these wonderful artistes on tabla will be Wellington’s Sanjay Dixit and Auckland’s Nikhil Ghate and Navneel Prasad.
