Fleeing driver crashes onto public bus in Auckland CBD

Police attempted to stop a vehicle of interest in Upper Queen Street in Auckland’s CBD at approximately 11 a.m. today after identifying the driver as being a person wanted by police. The driver failed to stop and fled.
Police followed the fleeing vehicle for approximately one minute, however, due to the dangerous manner of driving police abandoned the fleeing driver.
The vehicle was then seen again and police attempted to re-engage with the fleeing driver.
The fleeing vehicle collided with the rear end of a bus causing the vehicle to hit a nearby pedestrian at the intersection of Anzac Ave and Waterloo Quadrant.
Following the crash, the fleeing driver attempted to run from the scene on foot.
Police chased the offender by foot and apprehended him a short distance from the crash.
Thankfully only one pedestrian received minor injuries and received medical treatment at the scene. No hospital treatment was required.
Police arrested the fleeing driver who is now in custody and will be facing driving charges. Police are not ruling out further charges.
