New idols installed at Tauranga’s first Temple

Families and devotees in Tauranga gathered in numbers to host a three-day idol installation ceremony at the first Hindu temple in the city earlier this month.
Devotees from every corner of the city participated at the Murti Sthapna and Prana Prathista ceremony hosted from Friday, February 9 to Sunday, February 10.
Before 2012, families would gather at each other’s houses to host and celebrate Hindu festivals and mass prayers services.
With the help of the community, Sanatan Dharm Trust was established in 2012 and land bought by the Trust at Whiore Avenue to built Tauranga’s own Hindu temple.
The painted marble statues of goddess Durga, Lord Shiva, Shiva Lingam, goddess Lakshmi, Shri Krishna, Shri Ram, Shri Lakshman, goddess Sita were placed on the platform and unveiled to the devotees.
The three-day ceremony involved chanting hymns, praying, and singing.
The three-day ceremony is required to bring life to the idols, one step at a time with every single mantra, also called Prana Prathista.
The main mission of the Sanatan Dharam Trust is to provide regular and effective programmes, which enables promoting a better understanding and appreciation for the advancement of the Sanatan Dharam philosophy and Hindu language and culture without distinction of race, caste, creed and colour, in Tauranga, New Zealand.
