One more person is reported to have died in a car accident and another critically injured that is confirmed to have involved drink driving.
The accident occurred at around 12:40 a.m. on Sunday, December 24 in Hanmer Springs, a town in Canterbury region. The single-vehicle collided with a tree on Jollies Pass Road.
The Indian High Commission is in touch with the family of the deceased in Kerela, India and making necessary arrangements.
The other person is critically injured and was flown to Wellington Hospital.
