Six people were left dead and numerous injured when a truck-driver drove on the wrong side of a cycleway in Manhattan, New York short while ago.
New York City Police has confirmed that a vehicle, which is reported to be a Home Depot rental van, drove onto a pedestrian and cycle path alongside the West Side Highway at full speed, hitting several people.
Several witnesses have claimed that gunshots were heard immediately after the truck came to a halt.
This has led many to concur that it was a terror attack; however, nothing has been confirmed officially.
An eyewitness has told US media that he heard about nine or 10 shots, but could not identify which direction they were coming from.
It is now thought the gunshots came from police officers.
However, it is still very early and chaotic before anything can be confirmed with some degree of authority.
