Skills Update Community Investment in Mangere

On Monday, July 31, Skills Update celebrated the opening of its new building on Tidal Road, Mangere. “We have been here for 27 years and we love this community.  We love working with its diversity, and enjoy the strong Maori and Pacific heritage of our students,” Managing Director Farzbod Taefi said, “Our building renewal programme is a statement of optimism and investment in this community and it reflects our confidence in all our present and future students.”

Over the past few years, Skills Update has undertaken to renew and expand the facilities at all branches so that the students can enjoy learning in spacious classrooms and workshops fitted with up-to-date equipment and resources.  There are also spaces for students to take advantage of different recreational facilities such as gyms and games rooms.  The Mangere site has undergone the biggest expansion by far, with over 7000 sq m of floor space added, and the renewal of its existing premises.

Some of the free courses offered at Skills Update include, Automotive Engineering, Computer and Technology Skills, Transport and Logistics, Carpentry, Hospitality, Business Administration, Electrical Engineering, Metal Fabrication, Retail, Care for the elderly, Pre-forces Training, and Security.

Over the years, Skills Update has also helped the vast majority of their students to find satisfactory employment, and many of their past students are also now in managerial positions and are sending their recruits to them for training. “It’s a great feeling to be part of this intergenerational education in this community,” Mr Taefi said.

Skills Update now employs over 120 people and is one of New Zealand’s most successful private tertiary education providers.

Skills Update is taking enrolments now for all programmes across all branches
