Enthusiastic International Yoga Day Celebrations in Wellington

On a bright and sunny winter morning, about 70 yogis gathered to celebrate "International Yoga Day" on Sunday, June, 18 at Bharat Bhavan, Wellington, which was organised by the Indian High Commission in New Zealand. This event was in collaboration with Art of Living, Brahma Kumaris Raja Yoga Centre and Wellington Indian Association.

Celebrations started with Ravi Mistry from Art of Living welcoming the yogis after which Indian High Commissioner to New Zealand Sanjeev Kohli and Minister of Parliament Brett Hudson addressed the gathering. Mr Hudson quoted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's lines at United Nations, "Yoga embodies the unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature."

All the participants were guided through different Yoga asanas like Suryanamaskara or Sun Salutations, fun Yoga for kids where everyone got to imitate different animals and then a meditation session that left everyone in a peaceful state of mind. The event concluded with some healthy refreshments like fruits and tea.

International Yoga Day celebrations were a great success with young and the old coming together to celebrate the health and well-being benefits of yoga, which is India's gift to the world.
