Auckland Malayali Samajam under new leadership

Auckland Malayali Samajam, the largest ethnic Samajam in Oceania celebrated the traditional festival of Easter and Vishu in its full richness on Monday, April, 17, at Royal Oak Intermediate School in Royal Oak.

The Auckland Malayali Samajam has in the past organized many community events and festivals for the Malayali and the extended Indian community in Auckland. The organization hosts Yoga camps, Christmas and Easter celebrations and also the cultural events during Diwali and engages with the larger community in Auckland.

The annual general body meeting of Auckland Malayali Samajam was held alongside the Easter celebrations on Monday, April 17.

In this meeting a new governing body was elected for the current year. Dr. Michael Manjaloor led the election in the capacity of presiding officer. The Samajam members elected ten new executive members to carry forward the activities for the year 2017-18.

Benny Jacob was elected as the new President of the association succeeding Joseph Devasia. Blessen M Jose was elected as the vice president, Thomas Joseph as the secretary, Dr.Vimal Gangadaran as the Joint Secretary, and Venu Nair as the Treasurer of the Malayali Samajam.Anil Joseph, Sebastian Dr. Smitha Shaji, Julie Vinuand NijeyaRenju were elected as the executive members of Malayali Samajam.

The newly elected president announced new policies whereas the proposed recommended strategies towards the end of the meeting.

The agenda for the year 2017-18 will be discussed in the next meeting to be scheduled soon.
