The four-year-old kid [previously erroneously mentioned as three-year-old] who died on Friday, November 18, afternoon at Angels Childcare Centre on 31 Anzac Street in Takapuna has been named.
Aldrich Viju was dropped at the centre by his parents at 1.30 p.m. on Friday, and just after 2 p.m., his parents received the news of their son’s accident.
Aldrich is believed to have been playing on the playground equipment when the accident happened however police is investigating the circumstance under which the accident took place.
Aldrich’s father Viju Vareed works in a food and drink packaging specialist company and mother Gisha Viju works as a nurse at Waitemata District Health Board.
The family is a member of a close-knit Malayali association of Auckland and were well known in the community.
Two ambulances and several police vehicles arrived at the scene just after 2 p.m. and the forensics examined the area for signs that will solve the riddle behind the accident.
Aldrich was declared dead on the scene, and his body was taken in a hearse to Auckland Hospital just before 4.30 pm for further examination.
Members of the community and parents of other children at the care centre arrived shortly as the news spread.
“When I arrived at the school, I saw the devastated father holding Aldrich and crying,” said a community member at the scene.
Details of special prayers and funeral arrangements will be announced soon.
Indian Weekender expresses its deepest condolences to Viju’s family and may little Aldrich’s soul rest in peace.
