News Flash: Change of Plan, PM John Key may land directly to New Delhi

Live update: In a major embarrassment to the highly anticipated India visit of the Prime Minister John Key, the second attempt to take off from Australia's Townsville airport has to be aborted. It has been officially announced to take off all luggage and proceed to Customs.

Prime Minister John Key's aircraft en-route to India has broken down at Townsville Airport in Australia due to some technical fault.

The Royal New Zealand Air Force Boeing 757 stopped at Townville for refueling. The stopover was initially delayed by about 30 minutes and later was aborted as soon as the aircraft taxied to the runway, due to technical problems.

Key is on his way to India to build trade ties, accompanied by his wife Bronagh Key, former New Zealand cricketer Brendon McCullum, NZ Defence Force cricket team, about 30 business delegates, and a group of media members.

He will be meeting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Pranab Mukherjee in India during his four-day visit, apart from other attending trade and tourism events.

At the time of reporting the news, the problem was still unknown and the delegation was waiting at the airport.
