Voting opens for Auckland local body elections

From Friday, September 16, 1,043,009 Aucklanders will receive in the mail their voting document, instructions and information about the 468 candidates contesting the 170 positions up for grabs to lead Auckland for the next three years. Electors will also be asked to choose 21 representatives for three district health boards and 35 representatives for five local licensing trusts.

To ensure eligible voters know that the election for a new mayor, 20 ward councillors and 149 local board representatives is on and post their vote, Auckland Council is running a multimedia billboard, radio, print and digital communications campaign.

It’s focused on Aucklanders showing their love for their city by voting, and includes a community outreach and engagement programme using a refurbished kombi van as the centrepiece to provide information and encourage people to get involved and vote.

Social media is a key feature of the campaign with activity on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The council is also using the language of emoji icons to get into the hearts and minds of millennials, with key messages on why their vote matters.

The showyourlove.co.nz  election website has a section for voters to find out important information about the candidates and where a candidate stands on key issues.
