Prime Minister Key happy with progress on Indian FTA

A group of Indians, led by MP Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi met Prime Minister Hon John Key at a fund raising dinner organised by the National Party in Auckland. The PM mentioned his fruitful meeting with the Prime Minister of India Dr Manmohan Singh in Thailand.

The PM added that the progress on the Free Trade Agreement between New Zealand and India is progressing nicely and both the countries have currently started third round of talks on the FTA agreement.

The group included Prithipal Singh MNZM, Roshan Nauhria MNZM, Beant SinghQSM, Vipin Garg, Sudesh Jhunjun- walla, Rakesh Patel and Ajay Kumar.

MP Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi in turn briefed PM Hon John Key about his meeting with an Indian Delegation which was here to purchase defence related marine equipment. The delegation has already bought equipment from NZ worth about $20 million in this year.

The equipment bought includes engines for high speed boats used by coast guards and naval surveillance. After the Mumbai incident that occurred at the Taj Hotel on the 28th of November 2008, the Indian government has realised the need to increase its coastal security.
