BollyworX New Lynn starts with a bang

This was proven by the turnout of participants from all walks of life -toddlers, elders, females, males of all shapes, sizes and fitness levels. This group of some 120 odd adults and 30 kids jump jammed to a feverish pitch for the full two hour of BollyworX. BollyworX is not dance but a workout that everyone can enjoy without feeling self-conscious.

BollyworX relies on just ‘plain fun body movements’ with Bollywood music and is devoid of any obscene Bollywood moves that will embarrass anybody. It’s exceptionally easy and fun, suitable for all age groups and all fitness levels

BollyworX New Lynn inaugural took place on the November 14 at New Lynn Community Centre, and was a success. Who says Indian community is not health conscious?

SPROUT's reliance on word-of-mouth in the neighborhood communities and other promotion was once again fruitful as the turnout was overwhelming. Participants comprised a wide cross-section of the Indian and South Asian community and included the young and old who were at different fitness levels.  The response from the crowd was wholesome and encouraging.

BollyworX kicked off with a warming up session conducted by Deepa and Shveta who are trained community coaches. Their sessions prepared the participants for a pulsating, hi-energy 30 minutes led by Tony and Lea, both trained professional fitness instructors. They demonstrated moves that were religiously followed and thoroughly enjoyed by young and old alike on the floor. Sawinder Pasricha showed the crowd how simple Bhangra steps can help them keep fit. Shveta Bhatt had the crowd hopping and working out to the catchy tunes of "Jai Ho”

Amidst other enthusiastic instructors, SPROUT's little kids put up a solid choreography of "dancercise" set to the tunes of swashbuckling bollywood music. They incorporated day-to-day movements like sweeping, mopping, hopping or simply hugging into the dance and this was applauded and appreciated by the crowd.

Spot prizes were also given to encourage participants. Thanks to Waitemata DHB for funding this event and thanks to Radio Tarana, SPROUT's media partner, their ever-supportive sponsors and the community at large, the event was well-received.
